Algebra 2 lesson plan: Exponential growth & decay

Topic: Exponential growth and decay functions (F-LE.A.1, F-IF.C.8b). Adjust the settings, then copy the prompt.

Don't type student names or personal info. This site never sends your prompt anywhere; you paste it into the AI tool yourself.

Print lesson plan

Paste the lesson plan the AI gives you, check it, then print. It prints black on white with no menus or buttons, and the student handout starts on its own page.

Planning notes for this lesson

Prerequisite skills to check: linear functions and slope (8.F.B.4); properties of integer exponents (8.EE.A.1); percent increase and decrease (7.RP.A.3); evaluating a function from a table or graph.

Key vocabulary: exponential function, initial value, growth factor, decay factor, rate of growth, half-life, asymptote.

Warm-up idea: Ask: would you rather get $1,000 a day for 30 days, or 1 cent on day 1 that doubles every day for 30 days? Have students guess before calculating.

Exit ticket idea: Students write y = a(b)^x for a situation, say whether it shows growth or decay, and state the percent rate of change.

Always check the AI's plan and answers before you teach.
