What it does

CoGrader drafts scores and comments on essays and other written work against a rubric you upload or one of its preloaded rubrics (Common Core, state tests such as STAAR and Smarter Balanced, AP/IB). It can grade handwritten work from photos or scans, imports assignments from Google Classroom, and builds rubrics. Teachers review and edit every score and comment before students see them.

Best for

Teachers with stacks of essays or written responses who want a faster first pass of rubric feedback while keeping the final say.

Price

Starter is free for teachers: 150 student submissions per month, rubrics, Google Classroom integration and handwritten assignments. The Individual plan is USD 19/month, or USD 15/month billed annually, with 350 submissions a month, grammar checking, a class dashboard, and AI and plagiarism detection. School and district plans are quote-based (per cograder.com/pricing, checked 2026-11-01).

Limitation

Built for written responses, not quick multiple-choice quizzes, and 150 free submissions a month goes fast with several classes. Review AI scores before releasing them. Its privacy policy (updated September 21, 2026) says it doesn't sell personal information or use student work to train AI models, and its AI providers are contractually barred from training on it; confirm it fits your district's data agreement.
