What it does

EssayGrader is an AI essay grader for teachers and schools. Teachers choose or upload a rubric (the vendor says more than 800 standards-aligned rubrics covering U.S. state standards, Common Core, AP and more), upload a class of essays — including from Google Classroom, Canvas or Schoology, or as a scanned PDF of handwritten work — and review the drafted scores and comments before sharing. The homepage also describes revision comparison, class-wide writing trends, and built-in AI-writing and plagiarism checks on paid plans. Vendor pages state student work is not used to train AI models and that student names, emails or IDs are not required to grade.

Best for

ELA, history and other essay-based teachers who want a first-pass rubric score and comments on a stack of papers, including handwritten work, while keeping the final say on every grade.

Price

Basic is free: up to 100 essays a month at 1,000 words each, with LMS integrations, a rubrics library and grammar reports (essaygrader.ai/pricing, checked 2026-11-08). Pro is listed at $14.99/month for 350 essays a month with AI-writing and plagiarism detection, 800+ aligned rubrics and instant chat support (the pricing page also labels Pro “SAVE 25%”). Premium is listed at $34.99/month for 800 essays a month up to 8,000 words, automatic AI-writing detection and weekend chat support (labeled “SAVE 30%”). School District & Higher-Ed plans are custom quotes.

Limitation

The free plan caps each essay at 1,000 words and 100 gradings a month, so longer papers and heavier caseloads need a paid tier. AI-writing and plagiarism detection are listed on the Pro plan, not as part of the free Basic summary. Teachers still need to review and adjust every score — the vendor says you stay in control — and district purchase is quote-only.
