What it does

Quill gives students short (10-15 minute) online writing activities: sentence combining (Quill Connect), grammar, proofreading, a diagnostic and teacher-led group lessons. Quill Reading for Evidence pairs a nonfiction text with AI-powered writing prompts; students support claims with evidence from the text and get targeted feedback on each revision (up to 4 revisions per prompt). Teachers see results in a scorebook.

Best for

ELA and content-area teachers who want quick, free sentence-level writing practice, and grade 8-12 teachers who want students writing with text evidence instead of answering multiple-choice questions.

Price

All of Quill's apps and activities are free for teachers and students. Teacher Premium (Progress Reports to view and download data) is USD 115 per year for one teacher's students; school licenses cover a whole school, and district pricing is custom (per quill.org/premium, checked 2026-11-02).

Limitation

These are short supplemental exercises, not full essay grading, and Reading for Evidence is designed for grades 8-12. Downloadable progress reports need Premium. Its privacy policy says Quill never sells student personal data and shows no advertising of any kind on Quill.org; confirm it fits your district's data agreement.
