What this quiz should check
Topic: Fractions on a number line (3.NF.A.2). A good grade 3 quiz on this asks students to:
- Partition the interval from 0 to 1 into b equal parts and label each mark 1/b, 2/b and so on
- Locate a fraction a/b by marking off a lengths of 1/b from 0
- Explain that each fraction is a point, a number, on the number line
- Recognize that b/b lands at 1
Misconceptions worth a question
- Counting the tick marks instead of the equal spaces between them
- Partitioning a line into unequal parts
- Thinking 1/4 is bigger than 1/3 because 4 is bigger than 3
Teacher tip: Grade 3 fraction standards are limited to denominators 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8, so tell the AI to use only those and to describe each number line in words (for example, "a line from 0 to 1 split into 6 equal parts") so items still work on paper.
Always check the AI's answer key before you give the quiz to students.
Teach it first
Plan the lesson on the same standard: objective, practice, differentiation and an exit ticket.
