What this quiz should check
Topic: Comparing firsthand and secondhand accounts of the same event or topic (RI.4.6). A good grade 4 quiz on this asks students to:
- Tell whether an account is firsthand (written by someone who was there) or secondhand (written by someone who learned about it)
- Use clue words such as I, we and saw, or researched facts and dates, as evidence
- Compare what each account focuses on
- Describe what information one account gives that the other leaves out
Misconceptions worth a question
- Thinking any text that uses "I" is a firsthand account of the event
- Deciding the firsthand account is always more accurate or complete
- Comparing only the topic instead of the focus and the information each account provides
Teacher tip: RI.4.6 needs two accounts of the same event, so tell the AI to write both a short original eyewitness account and a short report of that same event before writing the questions.
Always check the AI's answer key before you give the quiz to students.
