Grade 8 Math lesson plan: Linear vs. nonlinear functions
Topic: Linear and nonlinear functions (8.F.A.3). Adjust the settings, then copy the prompt.

Paste the lesson plan the AI gives you, check it, then print. It prints black on white with no menus or buttons, and the student handout starts on its own page.
Planning notes for this lesson
Prerequisite skills to check: a function assigns each input exactly one output (8.F.A.1); slope as a unit rate and the meaning of y = mx + b (8.EE.B.5, 8.EE.B.6); plotting points from a table on the coordinate plane.
Key vocabulary: function, linear, nonlinear, rate of change, slope, y-intercept, input, output, table of values.
Warm-up idea: Show two savings plans: Plan A adds $10 every week, Plan B starts with $1 and doubles every week. Ask: which plan would you pick for 4 weeks? For 12 weeks? Make a table for each and check whose graph is a straight line.
Exit ticket idea: Students sort six relationships (two equations, two tables, two graphs) into linear and nonlinear, justify each one with a constant or changing rate of change, and write their own nonlinear example, such as the area of a square, A = s².
Always check the AI's plan and answers before you teach.
