What this quiz should check
Topic: Using relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which, that) and relative adverbs (L.4.1a). A good grade 4 quiz on this asks students to:
- Use who, whose, whom, which and that to connect a relative clause to a noun
- Use where, when and why as relative adverbs
- Choose who for people and which or that for things in grade-level sentences
- Combine two short sentences into one clear sentence with a relative pronoun or adverb
Misconceptions worth a question
- Using who for a thing ('the book who…') or which for a person
- Leaving a fragment after the relative pronoun ('The girl who won.')
- Overusing that when who or which fits the sentence better
Teacher tip: L.4.1a is about using the words in writing and speaking, so tell the AI to include combine-the-sentences and fix-the-error items, not just matching definitions.
Always check the AI's answer key before you give the quiz to students.
