What this quiz should check
Topic: Probability of chance events from 0 to 1, experiments and simple models (7.SP.C.5-7). A good grade 7 quiz on this asks students to:
- Describe the probability of an event as a number from 0 to 1 and use words such as unlikely, equally likely and likely
- Find a theoretical probability with a uniform model, such as a number cube or a bag of counters
- Estimate a probability from the relative frequency in repeated trials
- Compare a model's predictions to experimental results and explain possible reasons for differences
Misconceptions worth a question
- Expecting experimental results to match the theoretical probability exactly in a small number of trials
- Writing a probability greater than 1 or as a count instead of a fraction of all outcomes
- Assuming every outcome is equally likely when it is not (a tossed cup or a spinner with unequal sections)
Teacher tip: 7.SP.C.6 and 7.SP.C.7 ask students to compare a model to observed data, so tell the AI to include at least one experiment table and one question that asks why the results differ from the prediction.
Always check the AI's answer key before you give the quiz to students.
