Planning notes for this lesson
Prerequisite skills to check: multiplying fractions (5.NF.B.4); dividing unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions (5.NF.B.7); knowing that multiplication and division are inverse operations.
Warm-up idea: Show a measuring cup holding 3/4 cup of rice and a 1/4-cup scoop. Ask how many scoops fill it, then ask how many 1/2-cup scoops it would take, and let students argue whether the answer can be a fraction.
Exit ticket idea: Students draw a fraction model for 2/3 ÷ 1/6, write a matching story problem, solve 3/4 ÷ 2/5 with an equation, and check the answer by multiplying the quotient by the divisor.
Always check the AI's plan and answers before you teach.
